Mr Jonathan Park provides laser eye treatment to clear lens capsules that can go misty after cataract surgery.
What is lens capsule laser (YAG laser capsulotomy)?
After cataract surgery, the lens implant is surrounded by a capsule that previously held the natural lens resulting in the formation of cataract. In some patients, usually over months to years, this capsule can become thick or misty. This is called ‘posterior capsule opacification’ and can cause glare, blurred or misty vision. It is treated by a YAG laser which makes a small hole in this capsule (‘capsulotomy’) and improves the vision. The laser treatment is done in the clinic and is a procedure. It is not painful and takes approximately 10 minutes. Patients can go home straight away after the treatment, although they should not drive that day.
Why choose private laser treatment?
Most patients choose to have their lens capsule treatment privately for similar reasons as to why patients choose to have private retinal treatments. Although this treatment is usually not urgent, the symptoms that it causes (such as glare during night driving or blur) can be frustrating so patients are often keen to avoid long waits for the treatment. Private laser capsulotomy without insurance
You can always have a private laser treatment without any insurance. This would mean that you are a "self-paying" patient. If you have insurance, your insurance company might either pay all or share half the fees with you. This depends on the company and the type of insurance policy. My secretary can inform you of the prices, and work with you and the insurance company to clarify costs (please see contact page).
